Following the increased protection for ancient and veteran trees in NPPF 2.0, Sylvan co-Principal Julian Forbes-Laird has designed and now makes freely available RAVEN: the definitive guide to Recognition of Ancient, Veteran & Notable Trees.
Based on widely accepted attributes published and promoted by the Ancient Tree Forum, RAVEN provides a simple and rapid tool for standard assessment of trees against recognised criteria. RAVEN rests on the presence or absence of determinative features, set within a process designed to reduce false positives whilst ensuring that genuine veteran (and ancient) trees are correctly identified.
